  • HYSFK needs volunteers for Ropecon July 24-26

HYSFK will once again run a booth at Ropecon (https://ropecon.fi/), which will be held July 24–26 at the Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Center, and we’re looking for volunteers to man the table!

Your duties will involve selling Marvin magazines and occasionally wrestling with the card reader. No prior experience is required, and you’ll receive instruction at the start of the shift. Admission to Ropecon requires a ticket, but if you aren’t planning to attend the event otherwise, we get vendor wristbands from Messukeskus so you can enter (but not participate in the program). We aim to have at least two volunteers on duty at any given time. We’ll try to keep shifts between 1 and 2 hours long. The sales table will be open throughout the weekend if possible. The Ropecon sales area is open Friday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Saturday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Please let us know on which days and at what times you are available to work shifts, and whether you can work shifts on multiple days. Please sign up by Wednesday (July 22th) by sending an email scifiklubi@gmail.com. We’ll notify volunteers of their shifts on Thursday.

  • HYSFK needs volunteers for Finncon July 11-12

We are looking for volunteers for the sales table of HYSFK, HSFS and ESC at the Finncon in Turku, a week from now on the weekend of July 11-12.

Finncon is the largest annual scifi and fantasy event in Finland, and this year it’s held at Turku University on the weekend from July 10th to 12th. The event is free with plenty of program included, see the con’s website for more info:
    https://2026.finncon.org/

We are maintaining our table on Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm and on Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm, so these are the hours when we need volunteers. No prior experience necessary, the work is easy and we provide instructions at the start of the shift. There are usually two volunteers at a time at the table, and we try to organize it into two-hour shifts. When you sign up, tell us when you’re available or unavailable on Saturday or Sunday or both days and whether you want one or more shifts.

Sign up by Thursday July 9th by sending an email to tapio.salomaa@helsinki.fi. We will send out the shift schedule on Friday.

  • The Website Has Been Renovated!

    ⚠️ Cyberspace Unit Reports ⚠️

The HYSFK Cyberspace Unit has completed the months long Website Relocation and Renovation Operation. During this operation, the Cyberspace officers have renovated both the appearance and content of the Club’s website. All HYSFK members, and non-members who are interested in visiting the new website, may do so by utilizing Hypertext Transfer Protocol equipped with Transfer Layer Security to download the website’s Hypertext Markup Language document, by entering the string hysfk.fi to their Cyberspace browser’s address field.

On the frontpage of the new website, you can easily view the latest announcements and upcoming events. These will still be announced on the current channels (e-mail list and Discord), but the most up-to-date information will be available on the website.

📅 From the new Event Calendar you can view all of the Club’s upcoming and past events, including their date, time and location. You can also subscribe to the calendar to get the events directly to your Google, Outlook or iCalendar calendar (Note that event titles will be in Finnish!).

📄 On the Posts page you can view all of the Club’s important and not–so–important announcements.

📰 Selected editions of the Club’s official publication Marvin are also readable as PDFs on the Marvin – The Lehti page.
